Group 6 – Section 2

Believing and Enjoying God as Our Thrill and Pleasure

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…It is only seeing with faith the power and glory of God near me while in the sanctuary of Heaven that satisfies me; “…You are my God…My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You…Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory…My soul is satisfied…” (Psa. 63:1-2, 5). (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by applying these truths!)

…I turn away from earthly sources as my thrill and pleasure. Lord, I love the awesome thrill and joy of standing here before You as a kingdom priest. God “…has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father…” (Rev. 1:6); “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth” (Rev. 5:10). So I am a priest and I am commanded, and able, to stand before the Lord here because the Bible says, “…do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister to Him, and to be His ministers…” (2 Chron. 29:11). I welcome the kingdom of Heaven here; the rush of Your LIVING presence, Your LIVING power, and Your LIVING love into and all around me, here. (pause to feel courage by it!)

…Heart, do not doubt about thrilling yourself with God by standing before Him here because “…the Lord said to Moses, ‘…Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb…’“ (Exo. 17:5,6); “Elijah said, ‘As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand…” (1 Kings 18:15); “Elisha said, ‘As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look at you nor see you.” (2 Kings 3:14); “…the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished…” (2 Tim 4:17).

…Heart, I CAN thrill myself with God because “…God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (2Cor 6:16); So, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you” (Deut. 31:6).

… God’s Word says to me, “Delight yourself in the Lord…” (Psa. 37:4). So, I turn my heart to You, God! The presence of the Living God is the treasure I playfully enjoy. I set my heart to find the thrill I need by enjoying God and His holiness with me here. I will not be afraid because “…great is your love toward me…” (Psa. 86:13 NIV).

…I am making God my treasure: “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Mat. 6:21). God as my treasure is what I want. I grab my soul and turn my affections from pride because of human glory.

…Heart, hear this: “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21). The more I turn away from loving earthly things, the more freedom I find in loving the nearness of God with faith. I take pleasure in You, God, and heart, hear this, “…the Lord takes pleasure in His people…” (Psa. 149:4).

…The pleasure I need is not from forcing circumstances and people to cooperate with my plans for achievement. My glory is to receive the kingdom and let God work through me as He chooses.

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…Heart, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field” (Matt. 13:44). So, heart, it is right and good for me to make declarations that direct my heart into faith about the greatness of God’s glory because that increases my love for God and ability to receive and make the kingdom of Heaven my greatest treasure.

…I am making God my delight and my thrill because “…the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the abundance…of the river of Your delights.” (Psa. 36:7,8). So, I turn my heart to love Your presence in a playfully childlike way, God!

…Thank You that when I become childlike in my freedom and faith, I can enter by receiving Heaven here, with gratitude (Mark 10:15; Heb. 12:22-24, 28); “O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house And the place where Your glory dwells” (Psa. 26:8).

…I am making the presence of God and His kingdom with me, my greatest love and treasure (Matt.13:44). “I love You, O Lord…” (Psa. 18:1). Heart when by faith I trust God is drawing near to me, it is right for me to trust that He comes bringing Heaven with Him as He washes my heart and body clean (Heb. 10:19-22). Heart, angels are around me here and “…it is Heaven that rules” (Dan. 4:26).

…Heart, hear this and find the delight that you need by enjoying that as I stand before the Lord like a kingdom priest (2 Chron. 29:11); “Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary” (Psa. 96:6).

…I am making it my greatest love to be close to God and thrill myself with His splendor and majesty intentionally; “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power…” (Rev. 4:11). I turn my heart to love giving praise toward God, and not toward myself.

…The pleasure I love is not from the power I feel from being over other people. I set my heart to make the nearness of God my greatest thrill and pleasure. Lord, I love that it is from Your sanctuary that You give strength and power to the people (Psa. 68:35). (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by having God’s presence and kingdom around you here!)

…The pleasure I long for most will never come from daydreams of how well I win arguments with people in my head. God is my glory; I turn to treasure Your nearness God.

…The pleasure I need most is not from making comparisons of my status to that of other people. God is the standard. I love that I can exalt and honor God by depending on the glory and power that shines from Him so I can satisfy my thirsty need with His presence and kingdom around me here (Ps. 63:1-2, 5). (pause to let yourself think of a sense of holy pleasure and thrill coming to you because of God’s presence and kingdom around you here!)

MORE

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…the pleasure I long for will never come from sexual sin or lust. The presence of God is my thrill and my pleasure. It is God’s glory, strength, and beauty touching me that I love far more. Sin makes me miserable. The holiness of God’s power and glory close to me is what satisfies me best.

…I turn away from earthly sources as my thrill and pleasure. I turn my heart to intentionally love the rush of God’s holy presence around me more. The closeness of God is my greatest joy because doing anything else is evil.

…Rather than loving the thrill of rebellious sin, I am setting my heart to love the nearness of God and His power. I turn my heart to trust the goodness of God because “O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary. The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people. Blessed be God!” (Psa. 68:35); “…the Lord loves His people…” (2 Chron. 2:11).

…Heart, “…the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance” (Luke 8:15). So, I am determined to embrace and rest in the truth about God, to love Him, and to let God love me back by my trusting Him to draw near so He can be God to me as He desires. By my trusting Him to come with His kingdom here, God’s will can be more fully accomplished on earth as it is in Heaven (Matt. 6:33; Matt. 6:10).

…Heart hear this: “Delight yourself in the Lord…” (Psa. 37:4) because it says of God that “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32). I repent of holding hold back from setting my heart to find the pleasure because of God and, by comparison, nothing else.

…I repent of wanting worldly things as my treasure. I am declaring to my heart that God is my treasure because “…where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mat. 6:21). It is the presence of God that I love! You are my treasure, Lord.

…I am setting my heart to praise God rather than myself: “Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary…” (Psa.150:1). (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the closeness of God’s great power and glory!)

…Rather than praise myself about I am telling my heart that praising God is far better: “You are my God…I exalt you” (Psa. 118:28 NIV); “My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear it and rejoice.” (Psa. 34:2); “The Lord is my strength…and I will praise Him…” (Exo. 15:2); “…Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.” (Rev. 4:8).

…Heart hear this: “…you are to cling to the Lord your God…” (Jos. 23:8). So, I am stopping right now to trust that God is drawing near and that I am taking hold of Him.

MORE

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…Heart hear this: “…you are to cling to the Lord your God…” (Jos. 23:8). So, I am stopping right now to trust that God is drawing near and that I am taking hold of His presence around me, from inside me.

…I am determined to build my faith by ascribing glory to the Lord so that my thinking can be more aligned with the reality of Heaven: “…Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name…come before Him; / Worship the Lord in holy array” (1 Chron. 16:28-29). Heart, when by faith I “come before Him” by trusting God to draw near to me here, I put on the armor of light that shines from Him (Rom. 13:12, 14; Ps. 84:11) and can worship God in “holy array!”

…When I listen to myself make declarations that both cut off depending on the world’s glory and ascribe glory accurately to God, my faith is built up and aligned more fully with the truth about God’s glory being greater than the glory of pride I might get from the world. Through this, I find the freedom needed to open up to God with faith about His drawing near.

…When my heart believes and enjoys rightly ascribing glory to the Lord, it gets easier to find the thrill and pleasure I need because of faith in the greatness of God and His kingdom drawing close to me here. So, heart, “…take diligent heed to yourselves to love the Lord your God” (Jos. 23:11); “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock” (Ps. 27:4-5).

…I am confident, and I am secure because “…the Lord takes pleasure in His people…” (Psa. 149:4). “I love You, O Lord…” (Psa. 18:1). (let yourself feel confident from the closeness of God’s power and glory!)

…My greatest thrill and pleasure is not to compare myself to other people and find that I am better than them. Lord, I grab my soul and turn away from having to feed myself by comparisons. I love that receiving from You is so much easier. (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by God’s presence!)

…The pleasure I want most will never come from getting more toys. Because it is God’s glory I fall short of, only the kingdom of Heaven and the presence of God around me can satisfy my desire. I love that I can so freely turn to You, Lord.

…Heart, the pleasure I need is not to feed myself with the impressiveness of how I appear to others. Instead, I set my heart to trust that I am before the Lord in all His glory and to believe more fully that having His glory touching me is more significant and a far greater holy and pure pleasure than anything the world offers.

MORE

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…The pleasure I need will never come from earthly possessions, a house, or a car. Lord, I love that You draw near to me freely by Your grace. I can trust You to lavish Your presence on me because You want to be the one God who is my refuge.

…Heart, it is right for me to believe God rewards me when I seek Him because that is the kind of faith that pleases God (Heb. 11:6). So, I set my heart to cut off faith in earthly glory sources (John 5:44) and open up to God with childlike faith (Mark 10:15; Heb. 1-:19-22), gratitude (Heb. 12:22-24, 28), and praise (Ps. 22:3) that I am entering Your kingdom to present my body to God (Rom. 12:1) by receiving Heaven around me here. Heart, by this, I take refuge in You and possess the holy mountain of God (Isa. 57:13).

…Thank You, God, that I can do my part to help establish God’s kingdom on earth more fully where His will can be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Matt. 6:10, 33). (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured because of believing and applying the Word of God!)

…The pleasure I love most is not to look at friends as evidence of my being worthy. God is my glory—it is not the glory I receive from people. Lord, I love that I can receive Your presence without having to earn a sense of being worthy.

…Heart, I don’t have to believe lies about getting the thrill and pleasure I need apart from God’s radiant presence and kingdom around me here. I CAN walk in the Light as He is in the Light and when I do that by faith, the blood of Christ washes me and the atmosphere around me clean (1 John 1:5, 7).

…Heart, hear it, and embrace that God is my Lord and my God. I am cutting off having to depend on worldly things because my God “…is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Pro. 18:24).

…I am training myself to “Delight yourself in the Lord…” (Psa. 37:4); making God my delight and treasure helps me to turn from sin because “…where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mat. 6:21). Lord, I love the awesome and holy thrill and pleasure of standing right here before You, God. I welcome the rush of Your presence upon me. (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured because of God’s nearness!)

…Heart, it says, “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you” (Psa. 33:22 NIV). So, when Jesus said to “…abide in My love” (John 15:9), He was talking about putting our hope in Him so we could stay inside the substance of His love that pours out from Him “upon us” because of His glorification.

…God is my righteous thrill and pleasure because “Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.” (Psa. 96:6); “…Around God is awesome majesty” (Job 37:22).

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…” For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and…of Judah cling to Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; but they did not listen.’“ (Jer. 13:11); Heart, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deut. 6:5); “…cling to Him.” (Deut. 13:4). (pause to believe the love of God is upon you here!)

… “How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day, and by Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength…For our shield belongs to the Lord, and our king to the Holy One of Israel“ (Psa. 89:15-18); “…My soul clings to You…” (Psa. 63:8). (let yourself feel confident from the closeness of God’s power and glory!)

…The pleasure I need most is not from having acceptance and approval from people. The Lord is the acceptance I love. By my salvation I have God’s acceptance (Rom. 15:16). By faith I have His approval and pleasure (Heb. 11:1, 6).

…Heart, “…since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude…” (Heb. 12:28), I MUST believe I am receiving God’s presence and kingdom by showing gratitude that He is coming to me. So, I am telling my heart it is safe for me to playfully believe like a child that God’s presence is coming to me abundantly and as my refuge; “…we…receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Gal 3:14); “…the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house, and You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life…” (Psa. 36:7-9); “he who takes refuge in Me…will possess My holy mountain” (Isa. 57:13).

…Heart, “…he who comes to God must believe…that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6); So, “Break up your fallow ground, / For it is time to seek the LORD / Until He comes to rain righteousness on you” (Hos. 10:12). I set my heart to love the increase of drive, energy, and motivation that comes to me naturally when I believe and thoroughly enjoy that I am causing God to feel pleasure because of my bold faith that He is rewarding my seeking Him with His presence.

…The pleasure I long for is not to feed myself with how great I might think my personality is. God is my thrill and pleasure. I love knowing that I don’t have to exalt myself because my praise toward God significantly exalts and honors Him before an on-looking audience of angels, saints in Heaven, and demonic rulers and authorities (Heb. 12:22-24, 28; Heb. 12:1; Eph. 3:10; Eph. 6:12).

…The thrill and pleasure I long for most is not from _______________________. God’s holy presence is my pleasure. I love that I don’t have to deserve your willingness to draw near. My heart treasures God and His “Spirit of glory” (1 Peter 4:14) “upon me” here, more than any amount of glory or power I could ever receive from the world.

…(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…The pleasure I long for most is not to feed myself with my own human intelligence. Understanding and knowing God is greater: “…let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,’ declares the Lord” (Jer. 9:24); and heart, God tells us to “let justice roll down like waters / And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24). So, I set my heart to believe God for that even now: “Break up your fallow ground, / For it is time to seek the LORD / Until He comes to rain righteousness on you” (Hos. 10:12).

…Heart, hear this and believe it: God’s “…wisdom is…that which comes down from above…” (James 3:15), because “…as the rain and the snow come down from heaven…So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth…” (Isa. 55:10-11). So, Lord, I lift my hands to Your word and trust are speaking (Psa. 119:48). Thank You, God, that Your wisdom is coming to me so I can be among those who stand in the counsel of the Lord as it comes down from above so I can see and hear God’s Word coming to me here (Jer. 23:18). I wait for You to speak to me expectantly, God.

…The pleasure I need is not from feeding myself with how good I might think I am. The nearness of God is my God—His presence is my pleasure. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of these truths!)

…The pleasure I long for most is not from my sophistication and being “above” other people. The Lord is God, not me. (pause to hear, believe, and love it as the truth!)

…The pleasure I need is not from the security provided by earthly things or people. God is my security and pleasure. (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by God’s presence!)

…I turn away from earthly sources as my thrill and pleasure. I set my heart to love with joy the thrill and pleasure of standing right here before You, God. I welcome the rush of Your presence upon me.

…Heart,”…God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (2Cor 6:16). Heart, when I receive with gratitude the kingdom of Heaven with the angels and Jesus, it is right for me to believe that Jesus is walking with me here because that is what the verse says! Heart, I give myself freedom to believe Jesus is walking with me when I “Delight yourself in the Lord…” (Psa. 37:4); “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Mat. 6:21).

… “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed and were created.” (Rev. 4:11); Heart, “Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary” (Psa. 96:6); “…Around God is awesome majesty” (Job 37:22); “…My soul clings to You…” (Psa. 63:8). (pause to love the nearness of God. Let yourself feel confident because of the closeness of God’s power and glory!)

…Heart, “…the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the Lord your God loves you.” (Deut. 23:5); “…He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zeph. 3:17 NIV).

…I declare to myself that “…my soul shall rejoice in the Lord; It shall exult in His salvation” (Psa. 35:9); “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him” (Psa. 28:7).

…The pleasure I long for will never come from how much I get done today. It is better to drink like a branch during my activities and let God work through me. I love that I can receive and then rest with God’s holy presence upon and around me here.

…Heart, the pleasure I long for most will never come from thinking back over how well I protected myself. God is my thrill and my pleasure. Lord, I love Your grace to draw near to me so I can take refuge in You and Your holiness, God.

…The pleasure I love is not from my always being right. My glory is not in how well I win arguments! The nearness of God is my glory and good. The Holy Spirit in me and upon me is my righteousness. He is righteousness on me because I depend on God to wash the filth and of the world off of me by surrounding me with His marvelous light. Because we are “…washed…in the Spirit of our God.” (1 Cor. 6:11), I rest into letting You touch me with Your righteousness and purity, God.

NEW BOOK

Barry Hall’s first book, Receiving God’s Kingdom by Joyful Repentance, will help you to recognize the practical evidence of how we try to fill our need for God’s presence and kingdom with what we get from worldly substitutions, other people, sinful behaviors, and ourselves. It explains that in doing this, we receive pride that we put on like a coat around us for identity. Without realizing it, we put faith in our pride and try to abide inside it for protection, strength, and worth instead of receiving God’s kingdom and presence as needed. This book also explains repentance as a joyous process that changes our minds one step after another as we listen to ourselves, making bold and joyous declarations of repentance and faith.
