Group 6 – Section 1

Redefining Success: Being to the Praise of God’s Glory, Not My Own

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, success is in learning to depend on God in ways that help me live a happy, powerful, and holy life that honors and exalts Him! So, by my declarations I am setting my heart to enjoy that God IS being exalted by my depending on Him to draw near so I can make Him my refuge and live in His marvelous light instead of having the darkness of this world surrounding me here.

…Heart, let yourself find joy and freedom, knowing that my human glory does NOT define my success in life. Success is in my exalting and honoring God by humbling myself from pride and directing my heart into childlike faith that depends entirely on God to draw near with His presence and kingdom “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12).

…Thank You, God, that by drinking from You so I can abide in Your radiant presence, I can live life while honoring You in the most significant way possible! Thank You, God, that I don’t have to settle for living a meaningless life with the darkness of this world around me. You have called me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). Thank You, God, that I can direct my heart into the faith needed for abiding in an eternally significant way!

…The success I love is NOT from finding reasons to exalt myself with subtle internal praise, and I turn away from that. I set my heart to enjoy the significance of exalting God with a continual sacrifice of praise for His attributes and presence near me instead of subtle forms of praise toward myself and my human glory.

…Heart, by entering before the Lord, the kingdom of Heaven around me is my refuge of protection (Ps. 27:1-6; Heb. 12:22-24, 28). This way, my worship and praises are significant because I CAN playfully honor God as my God before unseen angelic and demonic rulers in heavenly places, even when nobody here sees, without fear. (Eph. 3:10; Eph. 6:12).

…I cut off and turn away from feeding myself with motivation from praise toward myself! I turn to enjoy motivation from believing the power and significance of honoring God in heavenly realms because of the playfully childlike worship and joyful praise I give Him here.

…Heart, I cause God to feel pleasure when I believe He is rewarding my seeking Him by His drawing near and surrounding me with His presence and heavenly kingdom here; “…we…receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Gal 3:14); “…he who comes to God must believe…that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Heb. 11:6); “…it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all…” (Rom. 4:16).

…I turn my heart to find the motivation and energy I need from enjoying with faith that God is pleased and being honored by my depending on Him to draw near to me so He can be my God instead of staying in bondage to the twisted glory and power I could receive from earthly idols. Heart, believe, and be thrilled that God IS being honored significantly by my childlike dependence on Him.

MORE

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, the success I love is NOT to enjoy exalting myself with evidence of how good I am. I love praising You, Lord because I am making You my God instead of depending on myself. I make You my God when the significance and goodness I need are because Your presence comes and is around me here. I set my heart to stay open and believe God is coming to me so I can keep on receiving the radiance that shines from God because I am determined to depend on God to do His work by the Holy Spirit flowing from Him as He walks with me here.

…Heart the success I long for includes loving God by a continual sacrifice of not exalting myself; “…let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God…” (Heb. 13:15). I delight that I can love God and exalt Him by praising His attributes, not mine. I love You, Lord, and I set my will to sacrificially love God with continual praise that normally goes toward me.

…the success I love is in NOT trying to find reasons why they should be impressed with me. You are the God of all glory. Heart, success is NOT to bring honor to me. Any human glory that comes to me, I will exalt You with it Lord. My God is the commander of the armies of Heaven, and Heaven rules.

…the success I love is NOT in fighting to earn, achieve, and defend my “self-worth.” I don’t have to play that game anymore. I pause and trust that my eyes are looking at You, Lord. I trust that You are walking with me here. I turn my heart to believe the eternal significance of exalting You, by my dependence on Your nearness, God.

…Heart, believe, and ENJOY that my freedom in worship and praise has great value for eternity! Heart, let yourself enjoy that God feels pleasure and is greatly honored by my childlike faith for depending on His closeness as my refuge, strength, and glory. My freedom in worship, praise toward God, and childlike dependence on the closeness of His kingdom GREATLY exalts and honors God before a vast audience of heavenly beings!

…Heart after having explained about entering the throne room (Heb 10:19-22), it says, “…we have…witnesses surrounding us…” (Heb. 12:1); It describes the audience in Heb. 11, and also talks about “…rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places” (Eph. 3:10); And, “…spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12). So heart, believe and enjoy the eternal value of childlike dependence on God with gratitude for His presence!

…Thanking God with joyful worship GREATLY exalts Him before a vast audience in heavenly realms, even when nobody here sees; “…Praise God in His sanctuary…” (Psa. 150:1); “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12).

…Heart, hear this and believe that “…Christ…so that He might bring us to God…” (1 Peter 3:18), and “…through Him we…have our access in one Spirit to the Father” (Eph. 2:18). The more I direct my heart into playfully childlike faith the freer I become in entering before the Lord by receiving the kingdom of Heaven here (Mark 10:15; Heb. 12:22-24, 28).

MORE

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…I CAN seek God’s face (2 Chron. 7:14) because it says, God has called us as kingdom priests out of the darkness of this world and into His marvelous light. When I enter by the Holy dwelling place of God by faith (Heb. 10:19-22), God washes me clean let’s me stand before Him as a kingdom priest. It says, “…present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship” (Rom. 12:1). So, when I make declarations that build my about God’s greatness and my being able to stand before Him I am putting on His holiness around me and applying where it says to “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; / Bring an offering, and come before Him; / Worship the Lord in holy array” (1 Chron. 16:29).

…I turn my heart away from the hidden idols in my heart and toward God because it says to “…worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh” (Phil. 3:3); Lord, “You are my God…I exalt you” (Psa. 118:28 NIV); You are my King and my God…” (Psa. 44:4 NIV); Heart, hear this and embrace it: “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21). “…the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” (Psa. 84:11); Lord, “…You…are…my glory…” (Psa. 3:3 TAB). “I will be glad…in You…O most High.” (Psa. 9:2); “…My soul clings to You…” (Psa. 63:8). “…I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all the gods” (Psa. 135:5).

…Heart, success I need comes from God because “…from Me comes your fruit” (Hosea 14:8). Success comes by receiving the shine of God’s face upon me, “the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you” (Num. 6:24-26). And so, “…as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He is gracious to us” (Psa. 123:2).

…The success I love is NOT in coveting earthly things to try and dull my thirst for God. It is the presence of God that is my delight. I love that I can love God and that my praise for His nearness helps to more fully enthrone the rule and reign of Jesus as king on the earth (Ps. 22:3). (pause to let yourself feel confident because of these truths!)

…Heart, I am turning away from defining success by how well I find reasons to praise myself inside. The success I love is in knowing that by my childlike dependence on God to draw near so I can abide in His presence, I am exalting Him in a significant way. Heart, God IS being greatly honored by my childlike dependence on Him as my refuge, strength, and glory instead of depending on what I receive from the world, and I will enjoy that!

…the success I love is NOT by what I do for God—it is by what God does because He is in me and walking with me here. Success is in the significance of living a holy life with praise and worship that honors God. Thank You, God, that directing my heart toward faith and enjoying You helps me abide in Your presence and live “uprightly” (Ps. 84:11). By my declarations I am setting my heart to keep drinking from the radiance around You, Jesus (John 7:37-39)!

MORE

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, my success is to keep drinking from God and let Him work as He pours Himself on, through, and around me here. Heart, believe that instead of living in the world’s darkness around you, you are before the Lord, abiding inside His “marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Because we receive the Spirit by faith (Gal. 3:14) and His kingdom like a child (Mark 10:15), I set my heart to motivate myself to keep abiding in God’s presence by how much I playfully enjoy that the radiance of God is shining on me and those around me here. Heart, believe it because God says, “…from Me comes your fruit” (Hosea 14:8).

…The success I need is NOT from how well I exalt myself when I think I have things figured out. God is the God of all understanding. I will love Him with a continual sacrifice of praise that normally goes toward me.

…The success I love is NOT to exalt myself with internal praise because of how much I help others. The success I love is NOT to daydream about my saving the world. Jesus is the Messiah and Savior, not me. I humble myself before You, Lord. Heart, hear this! Because I have entered the throne room, it is right to trust that Jesus is walking with me and that HE is being the Savior and ministering to the people around me here.

…The success I love is NOT to satisfy myself with how much other people enjoy me. Heart, feed on God! I will exalt the Lord with any glory that comes toward me. Inside, I will erupt with praise toward God. I demonstrate my love for God that way. Heart, God is my friend and Heaven rules.

…I grab my soul, and I turn it from exalting myself. Lord, I turn and give You praise — I give You a sacrifice of praise that normally goes back toward me. Lord, You are God — not me.

…Heart, let yourself love that you don’t have to be afraid about not having enough discipline to keep drinking from God – I CAN use my neediness as motivation! (Your name) , love that I can receive from the radiance of God like a sponge. I CAN draw near to God, and my need is so great that the more I love and enjoy being secure and strong in God’s presence, the more it helps motivate me to keep the “drinking straw” of my inner being pointed toward the closeness of God and His kingdom 24 hours-a-day. Thank You for walking with me here, Lord! (pause to enjoy God with you here!)

…I set my heart to turn away from living a meaningless life that does little more than ease my sense of falling short by praising myself. I am directing my heart to enjoy more of the nearness of God and His kingdom, “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory.” (Eph. 1:12). Lord, “You are my God…I exalt you.” (Psa. 118:28 NIV); “The Lord is my strength…and I will praise Him…” (Exo. 15:2).

…“to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), “I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress…” (Psa. 91:2). “My soul shall make its boast in the Lord…” (Psa. 34:2).

MORE

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God” (Psa. 20:7); “Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary…” (Psa. 150:1); “…Ascribe greatness to our God” (Deut. 32:3)!

…Heart hear this: “…you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psa. 86:15 NIV); “The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail” (Lam. 3:22);

…I set my heart to embrace that “…The Lord is my God” (Zech.. 13:9), WITHOUT self-protection; Heart, success is in honoring God with praise instead of yourself. Heart, “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21); “…My soul clings to You…” (Psa. 63:8).

…the success I love is NOT in the pleasure I find exalting myself with evidence of my knowledge and understanding: I will exalt the Lord and His attributes—not mine. I love praising You, Lord; You are the God of all knowledge and wisdom.

…The success I love is NOT in how well I protect myself: Even if I have to praise Him quietly, I will exalt the Lord instead of myself. Only God is strong enough to provide the protection I need. I love Your closeness, Lord. I hide myself in You, Lord.

…The success I need is to love God and enjoy knowing that He enjoys it. I will love God by praising His attributes and not mine. Success isn’t to feed on praise for my human glory. I turn away from that, and I set my will to love God with continual sacrifice of praise.

…“to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), the success I love is NOT to find joy in how well I justify myself: I will exalt the Lord—not myself. You alone are the God who justifies, and I praise YOU for that Lord! (pause to let yourself enjoy God!)

…The success I love is NOT in daydreams of when I might achieve human standards that will only get higher later: Lord, You are the standard. I praise YOU, God, and I set my eyes on You, Lord—not on myself.

…The success I love is NOT to thrill myself over evidence of my human significance. I turn from wanting to feed myself with the praises of people. When it comes, I will thank them, but inside, I will explode with praise toward You, Lord. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I need is to keep abiding in the radiance around God and to keep drinking from Him like a branch drinks from a tree. I set my heart to believe Your glory, Lord. I open myself to receive by soaking up the Holy Spirit of glory that radiates from You. I delight that God’s will is to produce fruit through me that glorifies the Father. (pause to let yourself feel confident about this!)

MORE

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…I turn from living to the praise of my glory. The Lord is God. His presence given to me freely is a far better refuge, a better strength, a greater glory than the little gods of this world. Lord, I praise You. (let yourself feel confident from the closeness of God’s power and glory!)

…Heart, success comes from God because “…from Me comes your fruit” (Hosea 14:8). The success I long for comes by entering the throne room with my physical body so I can trust that God is walking with me here. Heart, receive the shine of God’s face upon me because “the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you” (Num. 6:24-26). And, “…as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He is gracious to us” (Psa. 123:2).

…I set my heart to live, “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), not my own glory; “Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name” (Heb. 13:15); Lord, “You are my God…I exalt you.” (Psa. 118:28 NIV); Heart hear this: “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21); “From the rising of the sun to its setting / The name of the Lord is to be praised” (Psa. 113:3).

…Lord, “…You…are…my glory…” (Psa. 3:3 TAB); “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you” (Psa. 33:22 NIV); “You are my King and my God…” (Psa. 44:4 NIV); “My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord…” (Psa. 145:21).

…Lord, You are “…my rock and my fortress.” (Psa. 71:3); “I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!’“ (Psa. 91:2); “I will be glad…in You…O most High.” (Psa. 9:2).

…“to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), I will treasure the truth that the success I need is not to thrill myself with how well I perform spiritually. I will exalt the Lord instead of myself. I set my affections on You, Lord. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I love is NOT ________________. Success is to exalt God and to keep abiding in Him by drinking from God like a branch drinks through the trunk and from the rain. I rest into opening up before the Lord and drinking from Him like a branch. By listening to my declarations, I become more determined to keep my eyes and the loves of my heart set on You, Lord.

…The success I love is NOT in the joy of exalting myself with subtle internal praise. I love exalting God because He alone is worthy. Heart, enjoy believing the truth that my praise greatly honors God.

…Heart, “…the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name…” (1 Sam. 12:22). That same God tells me to drink from the radiance of the Holy Spirit around Him (John 7:37-39), and to receive His heavenly kingdom here with gratitude (Heb. 12:22-24, 28).

MORE

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…The success I love is NOT in daydreams of how well I achieve perfection. I love the closeness of Your perfection touching me, Lord. You are my God.

…The success I love is NOT to exalt myself because of the new things I learn. I love the closeness of Your wisdom, Lord. You are the God of all understanding. I turn my ears to listen to the Holy Spirit, who I trust is close and inside me. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I love is NOT in how well I avoid all possibilities of risk: I praise You, Lord, even if it has to be quiet. You are my protection. And, my God is the commander of all the angels of Heaven.

…The success I love is NOT to drink from the glory of my being what people think I can be. Lord, You don’t hold back Your plans for good. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…I turn away from looking for evidence that supports believing I have glory apart from the nearness of God. I grab my soul and turn it toward exalting God—not myself. I praise You, Lord! You are a far better refuge, a greater strength. My freedom in worship, praise toward God, and childlike dependence on the closeness of His kingdom GREATLY honors and exalts God before a vast audience of heavenly beings!

…Heart let yourself believe and enjoy the eternal value of my worship that GREATLY exalts God before a vast audience in heavenly realms, even when nobody here sees. After explaining about entering the throne room (Heb 10:19-22), it says, “…we have…witnesses surrounding us…” (Heb. 12:1); It describes the audience in Heb. 11, and also talks about “…rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places” (Eph. 3:10); And “…spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12). So, I set my heart to enjoy knowing with confidence that my worship is honoring God before those who are watching in unseen realms!

…It is “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), that I “…have boldness and confident access through faith in Him” (Eph. 3:12); “for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father” (Eph. 2:18). And by this I CAN drink from God because “…Jesus…cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37-39). Jesus is “…the radiance of [the Father’s] glory…” (Heb. 1:2,3); “…the fountain of living water…” (Jer. 17:13).

…I set my heart to live “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12), and not for the goal of praise toward my own human glory! I am turning my heart toward God by declaring to the Lord that “You are my God…I exalt you” (Psa. 118:28 NIV). Heart hear this: “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21).

MORE

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…When I come to You by trusting I am entering the throne room before God, He washes my heart and body clean (Heb. 10:19-22). I don’t have to wait to draw near because the nearness of God is my good; I welcome Your presence (Psa.. 73:28). Lord, “…You…are…my glory…” (Psa. 3:3 TAB); “You are my King and my God…” (Psa. 44:4 NIV); “…I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all the gods” (Psa. 135:5); “I will be glad…in You…O most High.” (Psa. 9:2).

…The success I love comes is the fruit that results from abiding in the radiant shine coming from God’s face upon me here. And it thrills my heart to praise Him when human glory comes my way. I exalt You, Lord. I delight that my praises help me want to stay open and keep receiving the Holy Spirit’s presence. Lord, I love that You draw near with Your power, love, compassion, and righteousness.

…The success I love is NOT in how well I use stress to help me achieve more: I rest into allowing God to work through me. I set my affections and praise on God, not what I achieve. I love the closeness of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sends to me as my helper. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I love does not rise or fall when nobody notices the good things I do: God knows and is writing His own set of history books. As for me, I will keep on trusting that God is with me here and that He is producing spiritual fruit through me by absorbing His radiance and letting the Holy Spirit flow through me.

…The success I love is not in the evidence I find of my human creativity: I will exalt the Lord of all creativity and not myself. I praise You, Lord. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I need does not come from how well I get someone to make me feel secure. God is my strong security. I love Your closeness, Lord. I have no security apart from You. My heart rests and is confident in You, Lord, not myself. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…I turn away from looking for reasons to believe I have glory apart from God. I grab my soul and turn it toward exalting God—not myself. I praise God and the nearness of the glory He gives freely.

…Because “…we…receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Gal 3:14), and “…he who comes to God must believe…that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6), I must believe that “…the LORD God is a sun and shield; / The LORD gives grace and glory…” (Ps. 84:11).

…Heart, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man” (Psa. 118:8); I am telling myself that “My soul shall make its boast in the Lord…” (Psa. 34:2); Lord, I praise the closeness of all Your attributes. I praise Your name—not mine.

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…If I don’t open up to receive the presence of God and His kingdom through faith and gratitude that He is coming to me, it will always be hard to stay in His presence. Heart, “…it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all…” (Rom. 4:16); and “…since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude…” (Heb. 12:28).

…I “…have boldness and confident access through faith in Him” (Eph. 3:12); “I have become a marvel to many; for You are my strong refuge.” (Psa. 71:7); “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him” (Psa. 28:7).

…Heart, success is in the significance of living a holy life with praise and worship that honors God. And because of the sinless life of Jesus and His death on my behalf, the Father glorified Jesus (John 7:39) so that by the radiant glory around Him I can walk in the Light of His cleansing radiance upon and around me here (John 1:5, 7). So, I set my heart to joyfully embrace the truth that I can “walk in newness of life” by the glory of the Father (Rom. 6:4).

…Heart, “…God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” (Psa. 54:4). So don’t miss believing that God helps me live “uprightly” (Ps. 84:11) when I open up to Him believing I am receiving His “Spirit of glory” (1 Peter 4:14) as the Helper (John 16:7), shield (Ps. 84:11) and armor (Rom. 13:12, 14) around me here.

…Heart, success is when I can trust by joyous childlike faith that the holiness of God is coming down upon me to crush (Rom. 16:20) and burn away the filth (Isa. 4:4) of demons on or around me trying to tempt me with sin and lust. I set my heart to trust and enjoy with a holy thrill and pleasure that the radiant presence of God is coming down upon me so that I put on around me as armor the nearness of God.

…Thank You, God, that by ascribing greatness to your nearness my faith grows and I can enjoy Your greatness with a holy pleasure, more than the temporary and twisted thrill I could ever find from sin (Ps. 119:11; Rom. 13:12-14).

…Heart, God is a far better refuge, a greater strength. My freedom in worship, praise toward God, and childlike dependence on the closeness of His kingdom, GREATLY exalts and honors Him before a vast audience of heavenly beings! After having explained about entering the throne room (Heb 10:19-22), it says, “…we have…witnesses surrounding us…” (Heb. 12:1); It describes the audience in Heb. 11, and also talks about “…rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places” (Eph. 3:10); And, “…spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12).

…Heart, let yourself believe and enjoy the eternal value of my worship that GREATLY exalts God before a vast audience in heavenly realms, even when nobody here sees!

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, “God is to us a God of deliverances…” (Psa. 68:20); I turn my heart to depend on Him by declaring to the ears of my heart that God is “…my rock and my fortress” (Psa. 71:3).

…Heart, “…God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (2Cor 6:16). So to get my heart to trust more fully, I am declaring to myself that God is “…my hiding place and my shield…” (Psa. 119:114).

Heart, “…the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name…” (1 Sam. 12:22); but Jesus also told us to abide IN Him (John 15:4); and, “The eternal God is a dwelling place…” (Deut. 33:27); so to abide in His tangible presence more fully, I am humbling myself from depending on pride as I “…say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust’“ (Psa. 91:2)!

…Heart, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man” (Psa. 118:8). The success I need is NOT to find pleasure in how well I protect myself from being embarrassed: I put on the humility of Christ and will thrill my heart by exalting the Lord with praise, even if I have to do it quietly. I turn my eyes to look at You, Lord, not at myself.

…The success I love is NOT to feed myself with praise toward me. Lord, You are the God of all glory. Lord, I praise You for the closeness of Your attributes—not mine. As I trust Your presence and kingdom around me, I am setting my heart to praise God’s power, beauty, awesomeness, kindness, wisdom, and strength close to me here; “…the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth” (Ps. 50:2).

…The success I need will NOT come from being more attractive than others. Motivation for success happens when hope is strong, and I help make something of lasting value become more significant. Rather than living for the meaninglessness of trying to achieve human perfection so I can praise myself, I set my heart to perform as well as I can to exalt God with the praise that comes to it.

…Heart, human performance is at its best when we can live free of fear and be full of motivation. Heart, success is in the strength of my belief and openness to the perfect beauty, holiness, and radiant glory of God that draws near and touches me so I can honor the holiness of His closeness to me instead of something about myself. I turn away from self-directed praise and pride. I turn my heart to delight in the nearness of God’s great glory so I can praise His name with me here instead of my name.

…Lord, You have the beauty, majesty, and glory. Significance and success for me are in knowing I can honor You with my childlike dependence on Your nearness for protection and by faith that I am praising You with childlike joy before an audience of angelic and demonic rulers and authorities in unseen realms.

…The success I love is NOT in finding evidence that my words have influence. It is God’s Word that has power. When I am successful, the glory of it is for exalting God instead of praising myself.

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, nothing on earth will ever come close to the value and significance of God’s glory and His kingdom near me here. Because I want a life of lasting meaning, success is in directing my heart toward greater childlike dependence and praise that honors God before people and in unseen realms. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of these truths!)

…The success I love is NOT to work at being something that others want to pursue. Heart, only God is worthy of our pursuit. My part is to cause God to feel pleasure because of my childlike faith that He is rewarding me with His presence. I love the significance of my part in improving the world by trusting with gratitude and praise that the kingdom of Heaven is coming, and by this, Jesus is more fully enthroned as King on earth (Heb. 12:22-24, 28; Ps. 22:3)!

…Heart, “Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone forth” (Ps. 50:2). So, I rest into enjoying by faith the touch of God’s perfection and beauty around me here. The success I love is NOT to achieve people’s praise to be ok. Success is in living life while open and cooperating with God enough to receive the radiant presence of God and the nearness of His perfect kingdom so His will can be done on earth as it is in Heaven (Matt. 6:33; Matt. 6:10).

…Heart, “…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Thank You, God, that I can trust Your Word and believe with childlike faith that I don’t have to live my life here surrounded by the darkness in the world! I can enter before you like a child and walk in the cleansing light of Your presence (1 John 1:5, 7).

…I turn my heart to trust with childlike joy, freedom, and gratitude that I can abide in the presence of God’s kingdom that comes down, crushing and burning demonic enemies around me here: “…the kingdom of God is…righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 14:17); “Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow” (James 1:17); “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. / The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you” (Rom. 16:20); “…the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion…by the spirit of judgement and the spirit of burning” (Isa. 4:4). Thank You, God, for the eternal significance of my doing my part to let Your kingdom come!

…The success I love is NOT in loving how well I measure up to the people around me. It is far better to thrill myself with confidence in the eternal significance of my playfully worshiping and enjoying by faith the nearness of God coming upon and around me here. (pause to let yourself feel significant because of this truth!)

…Heart, be confident about being to the praise of God’s glory (Eph. 1:12). By depending on God to draw near instead of depending on glory earthly sources, I can praise His nearness instead of myself because “…the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory…” (Psa. 84:11).

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…the success I love is NOT to delight in what people think about me. My delight is the closeness of God, even while people are giving compliments. I love that by trusting I am in the throne room, the Kingdom of God is around me here. God, I set my eyes on You and trust You are working in, through, and around me because of living life while abiding in You. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of these truths!)

…I turn my soul away from the end-goal of finding reasons to praise myself. I don’t have to feed myself that way! I will exalt and honor God—He is a far better refuge, a greater strength, and glory. By my declarations, I am directing my heart to love and enjoy the significance of living “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12).

…I set my heart to honor and exalt God by my childlike dependence on Him, even when nobody here sees it. I am greatly honoring God when I turn away from earthly sources and entrust my emotional well-being to depending on Him to draw near so He can be my refuge, strength, and glory here! (pause to let yourself feel confident and strong from the closeness of God’s great power and glory!)

…I set my heart to enjoy that I can “…worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh” (Phil. 3:3). Lord, “You are my God…I exalt you.” (Psa. 118:28 NIV); You are my King and my God…” (Psa. 44:4 NIV); Heart, hear this: “He is your praise…” (Deut. 10:21).

…By thrilling myself with God as my glory instead of the power felt from rebellious sin, the nearness of God’s glory helps me to live uprightly! “I will be glad…in You…O most High” (Psa. 9:2); “…My soul clings to You…” (Psa. 63:8).

…Heart, the truth about all people is that we can only change from one source to another when we believe the glory is greater in what we are moving toward. So, heart, believe glory of God and His nearness are greater than any glory I could ever find through sin or from the world! I am directing my heart to enjoy with childlike delight “…that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all the gods” (Psa. 135:5); Lord, “…You…are…my glory…” (Psa. 3:3 TAB).

…Heart, success comes from abiding in the presence of God with His radiance upon and around me here because “…he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5); and, “…from Me comes your fruit” (Hosea 14:8).

…Heart, the success I long for comes by my delight about receiving the shine of God’s face upon me even during the mundane things in life. Heart, I give myself permission to playfully enjoy that the Lord is making “…His face shine on you, and [is being] gracious to you” (Num. 6:24-26); “…as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, until He is gracious to us” (Psa. 123:2).

…Heart, the success I love is NOT to keep talking until they think I am important. I will enjoy significantly exalt God by loving His presence with playfully childlike praise.

Because it says, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You” (Ps. 119:11), I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…Heart, I make declarations aimed at turning away from the world and toward God because the greater my playful faith and delight about God’s kingdom and radiant presence continually coming to me, the more faithful I can be with motivation to keep receiving so I can abide.

…Heart, the success I love is NOT in the joy of exalting myself with subtle internal praise. Success is in my depending on God as my God and exalting Him for His freely drawing near. Because earthly glory is so painful and unsatisfying by comparison, I set my heart to enjoy knowing God is honored by my praise and utter dependence on Him to draw near so I don’t have to stay in bondage to receiving from earthly idols. My God is the commander of the armies of Heaven, and Heaven rules (Dan. 4:26).

…The success I love is NOT to love having other people want to be like me: I will love the Lord and thrill myself into faith that I can exalt Him by praise in an eternally significant way… (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The success I love is NOT to enjoy dominating people, only to pride myself on self-directed praise for achieving my goals. Heart, my goal is to do what is good, achieve my goals, and honor God for it with the praise that comes out of what I did. By directing my heart to abide in the presence of God rather than pride, I will bear fruit because of You, God. (pause to let yourself find significance because of these things!)

…The success I love is NOT to drink from respect other people have for me: I can exalt God in spiritual realms even when nobody here sees. Because the scriptures say it, I set my heart to believe that I am exalting God before an audience of angels, saints who have died before me, and before demonic rulers and authorities in unseen realms.

…Heart, the success I love is NOT to push myself to be more impressive when others around me are competing. Lord, Your glory will always be greater, and I will honor You because of that.

…I grab my soul, and I turn it from exalting myself. Lord, I turn and give You praise. It is with joy that I give God a sacrifice of praise that, inside me, would normally go toward me. Heart, the Lord is God; He alone is good, not me. Only God is worthy of praise “…Ascribe greatness to our God” (Deut. 32:3)! (pause to remind your faith about the greatness of God’s glory over earthly glory!)

…I repent of defining success by how well I find my sense of well-being through self-directed praise for the glory I earn for myself by works! “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God” (Psa. 20:7). By joyful declarations I am changing my patterns of thinking and dependence away from needing to praise my own human glory for my sense of worth, security, and confidence. I am directing my heart to love receiving God’s presence and kingdom so I can live “to the end that we…would be to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:12).

I am telling myself that I WILL believe, be thankful, and treasure the truth!

…the success I love is NOT in my having religious status where people are impressed with my spirituality. It is the glory of God that I love. I set my affections on You, Lord. I love Your closeness.

“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail” (Lam. 3:22).

…the success I love is NOT in my having to keep talking until I sense their approval of me. My honor and praise comes from God (Rom. 2:29; 1 Sam. 2:30; Jer. 13:11).

…the success I love is NOT to exalt myself with evidence of my being right: I love the closeness of God’s righteousness. I love that You told us to seek Your righteousness (Matt. 6:33). You also commanded us to let righteousness “roll down” like “an ever-flowing stream” (Amos 5:24). I set my affections to keep doing that, Lord. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…the success I love is NOT in quenching my thirst with what I earn: the Lord is the adequate God. He is worthy of my praise. Success is from drinking from God instead of the world because God says, “…from Me comes your fruit” (Hosea 14:8). I CAN open up to God and drink by faith from the shine of God’s face upon me because, “the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you” (Num. 6:24-26).

…I don’t have to believe the lies of the enemy to find something I can depend on for the glory I need. It is God’s glory I fall short of, and only the glory that shines from Him is enough. I don’t have to get what I need by achieving earthly glory so I can praise myself. I denounce feeding myself with the glory of earthly things! Thank You, God that “…the LORD God is a sun and shield; / The LORD gives grace and glory…” (Ps. 84:11). (pause to let yourself believe that He is doing it.)

…Heart, I cut off and repent of trying to drink from the glory of the world so I can feed myself with pride through self-directed praise. Hear the words of Jesus, “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?” (John 5:44). So the more I cut off depending on and believing for glory from the world, the more my faith can soar for receiving from the radiant glory around God.

…Since “…we…receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Gal 3:14), I set my heart to believe I can trade the glory I would seek from the world for the abundance of glory that pours out freely from all around You, God; “Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance.” (Isa. 55:1,2).

…I turn from living to the praise of my glory. The Lord is God. His presence given to me freely is a far better refuge, a better strength, a greater glory than the little gods of this world. Lord. I praise You, God, because “You are my hiding place and my shield…” (Psa. 119:114); “The Lord is my strength…and I will praise Him…” (Exo. 15:2); “I will be glad…in You…O most High.” (Psa. 9:2).

(Your name), I am telling my heart to believe these things and treasure the truth!

…My pleasure is not to come to the place where I think I deserve Your presence, God. Lord, I love that You draw near to me by my faith in the truth of Your Word and Your grace. You DO give me Yourself! And, I love that You don’t hold back. (pause to let yourself feel confident and be reassured!)

…The pleasure I long for is not from the twisted glory of sin—there is far more glory in being near and experiencing You, God. Heart, the Lord is the God of all glory, life, and power. I set my heart to make His presence close to me my holy and pure thrill and pleasure. (pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by thrilling yourself with God’s presence!)

…The pleasure I need most is not to change my earthly circumstances. I turn to God because my faith in the greatness of His beauty, strength, and glory close to me makes the nearness of God my greatest thrill and pleasure. Lord, I love Your grace to draw near to me and soothe me when I know I am lacking and am not enough on my own.

…I praise You, God; I don’t have to turn from You and toward sin because Your glory is far greater. Receiving Your glory is far more certain and dependable than any glory I could work for and earn from the world; “… let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain…” (Hos. 6:3). So, heart, “Break up your fallow ground, / For it is time to seek the LORD / Until He comes to rain righteousness on you” (Hos. 10:12). (pause to hear, believe, and apply these truths!)

…Heart, the holiness and purity of God is what I long for. Sin and idolatry only make me miserable!

…The pleasure I love is not the evidence I find of my being strong. I repent of depending on that idol. The nearness God, is my strength and my pleasure. Lord God, I love the touch of Your strength. I love Your grace and love that draws You to want to be near to me. I rest in You. (pause to let yourself feel confident because of the truth!)

…The pleasure I need is not from evidence of my human adequacy—the closeness of God is my adequacy. Lord, I love Your grace to draw near so I can depend on You as my God.

…Heart, I only have true freedom to repent and turn away from depending on myself when I cut that option off and rest in letting God touch me with His adequacy here. So, again, I remind myself that idolatry and sin are not what I want because they only make me miserable. The perfection and beauty of Heaven and God’s holiness all around and close are the only things that protect me from the darkness in the world and satisfy my soul. Thank You, God, for calling me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

…Heart, I can be “satisfied” (Ps. 63:1-2) with the nearness of God when I enter the sanctuary of God by faith and gratitude (Heb. 12:22-24, 28) that Heaven is coming to me and cleansing my heart and body here (Heb. 10:19-22).

NEW BOOK

Barry Hall’s first book, Receiving God’s Kingdom by Joyful Repentance, will help you to recognize the practical evidence of how we try to fill our need for God’s presence and kingdom with what we get from worldly substitutions, other people, sinful behaviors, and ourselves. It explains that in doing this, we receive pride that we put on like a coat around us for identity. Without realizing it, we put faith in our pride and try to abide inside it for protection, strength, and worth instead of receiving God’s kingdom and presence as needed. This book also explains repentance as a joyous process that changes our minds one step after another as we listen to ourselves, making bold and joyous declarations of repentance and faith.
