No Vacations from God
… (Your name), listen to what you are saying. Let yourself believe, love, and be thankful for the truth!
… Heart, rejoice that I don’t have to settle for spiritual achievements and then take a vacation from God. I turn from satisfying myself with spiritual achievements of the past. Heart, hear this: God offers more, and I want more. I will satisfy myself with the presence of God and His kingdom around me here, nothing less. (pause to feel reassured by it!)
… My heart should feel delighted that I don’t have to feed myself with the spiritual level God has brought me to. I turn from feeding myself with spiritual pride because of what God has done in me. I turn, draw near, and I feed on You, Lord. Thank You for walking and sitting with me here. (pause to hear, believe, and love it as the truth!)
… My heart should be delighted that I don’t have to satisfy myself with pride because of a new spiritual experience. God is the fountain of glory, and I set my heart to feed on the nearness of God’s power and glory (Ps. 63:1-2, 5), not on myself. I love that You are with me here, Lord. (Pause to let yourself feel confident and reassured by God’s presence!)
… I delight that I don’t have to drink from daydreams about spiritual victories of the past. I will quench my thirst with God and not turn away. God is God. He offers far more—I need to want more.
… I don’t have to drink from daydreams about my hopes for future spiritual experiences with God. I turn to You, Lord, because it is from You that my fruit comes (Hos. 14:8). Spiritual fruit is from what You do because of my abiding before You here (John 15:4). (Pause to hear, believe, and love the truth!)
… I don’t have to relax from drinking from God. Even when things go well for several days, Lord, I set my heart to stay before You. Heart hear this! God is your best hope for quenching your thirst—not earthly things or human achievements.

“For as the Earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet, until her righteousness goes forth like brightness, and her salvation like a torch that is burning. The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; and you will be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord will designate. You will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God” (Isa. 61:11-62:3).
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me” (John 15:4).

…I don’t have to satisfy myself with where I have been with God. I will not turn from moving ahead. More is always possible with God. Heart, hear this! Move ahead, and don’t hold back.
…I don’t have to relax from drinking from God when I go to work or school. I refuse to go on vacation from God when I am at home, when I am alone when I am with Christians, or with unbelievers. God is my hope of glory, no matter where I am or when. (pause to hear, believe, and love it as the truth!)
…I don’t have to stop drinking from God when I leave town. I love that I can exalt and honor God by continuing to drink from Him and not from earthly sources. God fills me better. My eyes and my ears are turned to You Lord. (pause to hear, believe, and love it as the truth!)
…I don’t have to pride myself on how well I have done spiritually. I praise You, Lord, for the growth You have caused. I turn from spiritual pride. God is how I quench my thirst—not pride. (pause to believe it)
…I don’t have to let myself get comfortable and satisfy myself with the heights I have climbed. God is my shepherd. He is the one who causes the growth—not me. I turn from worship toward me. The Lord is my God. I will follow where You lead… (pause to hear, believe, and love it as the truth!)
MORE
…Heart, rejoice to turn from and die to self-directed praise—even attitudes of self-praise for little reasons. Lord, I praise You because You are God—not me.
…Thank You, God, for the significance of my role as one with childlike faith who receives the kingdom of Heaven here with gratitude (Mark 10:15; Heb. 12:22-24, 28). As I enter by receiving Heaven here, God is washing my body and conscience clean (Heb. 10:19-22), and I am welcoming Jesus as Lord over all the Earth!
“…God…has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ…we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves” (2 Cor. 4:6,7).
“…the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ…” (2 Cor. 4:4).
“but indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord” (Num. 14:21), and as a result of that, “…the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Hab. 2:14).
“…the Lord gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psa.84:11). (let yourself feel confident from the closeness of God’s power and glory!)
Heart, hear, and enjoy being a part of what increases the Kingship of Jesus on Earth!
“There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace…To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness…The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this” (Isa. 9:7).
“…righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne” (Psa. 97:2).
“…a river of the water of life…coming from the throne of God…” (Rev. 22:1).
“But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” (Amo. 5:24).
“In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; in Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation…You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, the place, O Lord, which You have made for Your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established” (Exo. 15:13,17).
“And it will come about in the last days that the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains…And the people will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, ‘Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord And to the house…That He may teach us about His ways and that we may walk in His paths’” (Micah 4:1,2). (pause to believe it)
NEW BOOK
Barry Hall’s first book,
Receiving God’s Kingdom by Joyful Repentance, will help you to recognize the practical evidence of how we try to fill our need for God’s presence and kingdom with what we get from worldly substitutions, other
people, sinful behaviors, and ourselves. It explains that in doing this, we receive pride that we put on like a coat around us for identity. Without realizing it, we put faith in our pride and try to abide inside it for protection,
strength, and worth instead of receiving God’s kingdom and presence as needed. This book also explains repentance as a joyous process that changes our minds one step after another as we listen to ourselves, making bold and
joyous declarations of repentance and faith.
